Odry lies beside the upper reaches of the river from which it gets its name. The river Odra is surrounded by the forested hills and valleys of the Nízký Jeseník mountains. The valley opens into the main Moravian valley Moravská brána, which connects the south and north parts of Moravia. This was the ancient Amber Way. Odry became a Hussite stronghold in the fifteenth century. Lead and silver mining helped the town prosper and it also thrived thanks to its drapery  industry. The country´s oldest rubber factory began production here in 1866. Odry´s urban monument zone consists of the town square with Renaissance buildings and the NeoClassicist fountain. St Bartholomew´s Church with a bell that dates back to 1374, and fortifications from the 15th century. The town hall building houses the municipal  gallery, which organises several exhibitions every year. The Odry region is ideal terrain for hilking and bike trails. The so-called Rock of the virgin Mary near Klokočůvek is an important pilgrimage site in the area. Other places worth visiting include the Wesselsky water mill in Loučky and the Odry fisheries. The HEIpark complex in Tošovice offers downhill skiing facilities, a bobsleigh route and other attractions.

There are 5.500 inhabitants in Odry and more then 2.000 people live in the surrounding villages Dobešov, Kaménka, Klokočůvek, Loučky, Pohoř, Tošovice, Veselí and Vítovka.
